KATE lash maximizer (white mascara)

KATE lash maximizer by Kanebo

made in japan

price: 90HKD (bought from Sasa)

It is frustrating when you are not blessed with thick and long natural eyelashes. If this sounds familiar, then your best solution would be a mascara base/primer. For those of you who have asian eyelashes, you probably know what I am talking about. The worst part is that they point straight downwards.

Unlike other mascara base that I’ve used before, this one isn’t exactly “white”. Even though the brush itself is white, the formula isn’t. It contains little black hairs-like fibers about 2-3mm long that adds length and volume to your own lashes. I like it is semi-transparent instead of completely white because that way my eyelashes won’t turn grey when I apply regular mascara on top of it.

But regardless of what type of mascara, the most important step is always to make sure you lashes are perfectly curled. This is essential especially if you have asian lashes, like me. There is no point of applying mascara on eyelashes that pointing downwards!

It doesn’t matter what kind of eyelash curler you use, whether a cheap or expensive one. The best thing to do is heat it up with a hair dryer and curl your lashes with it when it’s warm. For me, this is the only way that the curling effect would last on me.

My bare lashes before and after curling, nothing too impressive as you can see.

After 2 coats of lash maximizer, I know you can hardly see any difference in the pictures but that’s because the formula is transparent. I could instantly feel the effect taking on my lashes as I applied the mascara, my eyelashes became hardened like I’ve used hair spray on it. I think that this helps my lashes to stay curled a lot!

Semi-transparent formula that can be covered completely with black mascara

Hardens eyelashes so they can be in a curled position all day long

Adds lengths and volume to eyelashes

Keep eyelashes well separated like a comb

Difficult to notice if you are applied too many layers since it’s not really visible, can lead to a slightly clumpy look

A little pricey

Remington Curling Wand

T-Studio Ceramic PEARL Professional Curling Wand

I haven’t used many hair curling tools in the past, simply because they are too difficult for me. I never really understood the straightener/flat iron method regardless of watching many tutorials. The traditional curling hair with the clip seems too much work for me with all the twisting and rolling. So I’ve always left my hair straight as it is, until I came across this CURLING WAND!

For those of you don’t know how a clipless curling wand, check out this video!

You basically just have to wrap your hair around the curling wand.

My results…

I love the wavy curls that this curling wand gives me!

I don’t usually part my hair to side, just curious of how it would look 😀

That’s the curling wand and the heat protective glove (one hand only). Photo 14-2-17 上午11 02 44

The highest temperature setting is 410’c. I know this sounds extremely hot but I found that the wand needs to be heated up that much for the best result. The first time when I tried curling my hair, I thought around 200’c would be enough and went for that. My hair went straight back down within 30 minutes. 😦

The temperature really makes a difference. Today I curled my hair with 410 degrees of heat and the curl lasted me 8 hours until I showered.

The curling wand is almost perfect.

Except that you have to wear the glove in order to avoid burning your fingers.

I tried doing it without the glove for a few seconds then I failed…

The downside is that it is difficult to feel and grab your hair when wearing the glove. Of course, I’ve seen many people doing it with their bare hands, it takes practice. 🙂

I highly recommend a curling wand for those who seek the easiest tool to use!

Ecotools 6 piece eye brush set review

BAMBOO 6 piece eye brush set

IMG_1542IMG_1543This set of eye makeup brushes by ecotools come with a a little plastic bag. On the description on the back, they claim to be earth-friendly because the handles are made from bamboo, whereas the bristles are “cruelty-free” (which means they are made of 100% man-made materials I suppose).

This natural cotton travel case may not be the prettiest, but it’s so light and easy to carry around you probably won’t even notice the weight in your bag. It also comes with a mirror on the side which may come in handy. Thumbs up for this design, it’s amazing how they fit all the essentials into one small case!

Look how petite the brush set is, even comparing with my phone!

The brushes are so small and adorable!

Each of these brushes has a label on them saying what purpose they serve, including blend, crease, highlight, shade, smudge. (what does shade mean?) Obviously I just use them the way I find them most useful, I saw some reviews saying that the blend brush (first one on the left) is oversized. I find it just to be perfect for applying a base color all over the lids. None of these brushes are too big nor too small.

I absolutely love them! The bristles feel so soft and gentle on my eyelids, the whole set is easy to carry around, the price is very affordable. So what more can you ask for from a brush set? 🙂

The only possible downside…

The cotton travel case has this slightly unpleasant smell? I’m guessing it has been in the plastic bag for too long before opening or if this is the “natural” smell. I guess I can always wash the case though. 😀

New skincare products: CELDIE (PDC), Neutrogena, OLAY

Coming back from Hong Kong, I have purchased some new skincare products since the ones I have at home are almost finished.

I’m not the type of girl who puts layers of facial products everyday, in fact my daily routine is very basic: face wash, toner and moisturizer.

Celdie Salt Deep Cleansing Foam

I’m totally in love with this! It removes all the dirt, oil and leftover makeup off my face like no other cleansing products. I’m very impressed because most facewash that claim to be “deep cleansing” usually tend to dry out my skin while it does its job.

What I love the most…. is that all you need to do is squeeze a tiny bit out of the tube and it will build up so much foam that covers all over your face. The more you rub it, the more foam it produces before you even notice! A little goes a long way, this product is probably gonna last me awhile. I got it for only $35HKD ($5AUD), extremely affordable.

Celdie offers a range of different flavors for this product, you can check out here:

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

Water gel is the perfect replacement of thick, creamy moisturizer for the hot season (it is summer now, in Australia). This gel formula product contains Hyaluronic acid and Olive extract that release moisture to dry skin. All I know is that this water gel makes my face incredibly smooth and soft, like a newborn’s skin. Its consistency is super thin and light, almost just like water. It is amazing that as soon as I apply it onto my face, it is instantly absorbed and leaves no sign of application.

This product reminds me of the LANEIGE water sleeping pack (korean brand), their appearance are almost identical. But in my opinion, Neutrogena is even better. They both make my skin baby-smooth, but LANEIGE can take awhile to be absorbed and before it does, my skin can feel kind of sticky. Neutrogena is also cheaper, $130HKD (you can get it for even less value at mannings when there is a promotion). I will definitely be continue using this water gel in the future, thumbs up 5/5!

OLAY active hydrating lotion

I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about the OLAY beauty fluid. Many say that it is a good daily moisturizer and can be used as a base before applying foundation. When I saw this active hydrating lotion, I thought this could be the same product although the label does not suggest it. (could be a regional difference)

The packaging looks similar:

Although this may not be the beauty fluid that I was looking for, there is no doubt that it moisturizes my face without being greasy at all. It’s not too light nor heavy, just how a moisturizer should be.

Batiste dry shampoo

Awhile ago I bought my first ever dry shampoo and by now I’ve used it a couple of times. I got it from Woolworths for $7.99aud.
It almost instantly refreshed my second day hair! This is such a life saver when you are in hurry, or if you want to take a break between shampoos. I decided to give this a try because I’ve recently dyed my hair and want to maintain the color.

The good things
Nice smell
Long lasting effect (7-8 hours until another application is required)
Affordable price

The downsides…
I think this dry shampoo slightly whitens our hair if you spray a good amount. You can clearly see that my hair color changed in the photo.

I would go at most two days without shampoo with this dry shampoo because I do not use this as a regular replacement of washing my hair 🙂

Essence products review

Essence, is one of the cheapest drugstore brand I have ever come across. I was not aware of this brand until awhile ago, when I saw it in Priceline. I bought a few products from Essence when all cosmetics were offered at 60% off at Priceline (unbelievable!) Since everything from essence is extremely affordable at original price (no more than $10), the sale further made these products ridiculously cheap.

Note that original prices will be listed down below for references. (AUD)

1. Nail Polish

146 That’s What I Mint! $2.75

ImageI absolutely adore this color! Although it may seem like a baby blue color in the picture, it’s a mint color just like the title indicates. Notice that the nail polish brush is flat? I find that a flat brush makes it so easy to apply, given that it allows the polish to lay flat on the nails and avoids uneven layers building up.  At $2.75, this nail polish is amazing and beats many other products at high prices. I will be very likely to purchase this again since they have a wide range of colors as well.

2. Studio Nails 24-7 Nail Base

ImageI have to admit that before buying this nail base, I had always used a transparent nail polish as an undercoat. Applying a nail base is supposed to smoothen the surface of your nails and make the nail polish applied on top of it last longer. As soon as I applied this nail base, it dries almost instantly (3-5 seconds). To be honest, I have not noticed a significant improvement in the appearance of my nails after using this. What I noticed is that it created bubbles, not sure of why.

3. Silky Touch Blush

50 Sweetheart

ImageFor some reason, the color looks coral in the picture. In real life, it is baby pink with no orange tone at all. I like it because it gives a hint of color on the cheeks without looking too overdone.

4. I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara, Deep Black

ImageTo be honest, I kind of bought this mascara because I was attracted to the eye-catching packaging. Pink and black is one of the best combination of colors. Now let’s see how this mascara performed on my eyelashes.

Bare lashes, curled

As you can see in the picture… the brush is HUGE!!! at least for my eye, it is way too big

 The final look

I have to say that this mascara was a disappointment.

-the brush was oversized, made it difficult to apply without touching my eyelids

-the formula was heavy and thick

-weighed down my lashes after less a minute of application

-gives volume but make lashes look clumpy

The biggest problem I had with this product is that it weighed my lashes all the way done. I tried curling my lashes again when the mascara had dried (which I rarely had to do) and my lashes would not even hold the curl. For me, I would say that not wearing any mascara is better than the look that this product has given.

However, I have read some reviews of this mascara on YouTube and other beauty bloggers. They seem to have good results with it, so I can’t say this product is completely awful. At a low price, perhaps it’s worth a try.

Relvon Colorsilk Burgundy

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to write about this hair dye on my first post, since it’s the most recent thing that I did. I got this from Priceline (a drugstore in Australia) for $9AUD, it’s basically the cheapest hair dye I could find from there.

The result…

Although it didn’t come out like the box color, I am quite pleased with the final result! At first, I was expecting a color with some purple tone in it. Be aware that I took this photo right under my lamp, in natural lighting this is not what the hair looks like. It’s more of a brown with a hint of red, especially after a few washes of shampoo.

Despite having extremely thin hair (yet long), one box of this hair dye was barely enough for me. So if you have normal to thick hair, you would definitely need more than one. The color started to turn almost as soon as I applied the hair dye, I left it on for a good 40-45 minutes before rinsing off. Overall, I would give this hair dye 4/5! For those of you that live outside of Australia, you probably can get this for even cheaper. I may or may not purchase this next time because I always want to try new things 🙂
